I used to be very afraid of rollercoasters but this summer that just passed, I went to Six Flags with friends and family and I went on many rollercoasters. Now I am not scared of rollercoasters any more. This question is not stupid, it is a good question because it could help others who have the same fear as you.
To get over my fear, I started out on small rollercoasters and worked my way up to big ones such as Nitro and other ones. It was kind of scary at first, but I got used to it and eventually it was not scary any more.
Have fun!

Discover Channel had a show on this a long time ago. The premise was people were trying to get over their fear of roller coasters. They met with a shrink at a park and talked it out and went on a ride. They went on a major ride the Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure in Universal Studios in Orlando. Everybody was scared beyond belief but once they came back you should have seen the smiles they had.

I use to be the same way. My parents bribed me to go on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. They picked that as my first because it doesn't do all the loops and stuff like others do. My advice would be to start small and work your way up. I understand being afraid of the height, but if you are really tired of being left behind the best thing is to throw caution to the wind and experience the thrill of it! Good Luck!

Go straight onto a really big one...once your on you can't get off no matter how much you scream. take your friends with you to make sure you don't chicken out. Believe me - there are only a few times in the ride you now how high up you are, most of the time you are going to fast.
If you don't like that ride, try a smaller one, until you feel more comfortable.
You may not actually be afraid of heights, but of falling. Try going up a tall building and looking down...do you imagine yourself falling or do you get the falling feeling in your stomach? If this is so...you may want to avoid drop towers.

Well, that is one way, but I would try a bigger one to start out on. Then, if you don't like it, just don't ride them. I would suggest screaming when everyone else does. It gets out fear (a little), and helps you enjoy the ride.
I've hated roller coasters ever since I was 6 or 7, so I know how you feel.

Okay, I went thru this. I am afraid of heights but love roller coasters. First question: do you like speed? Do you like going fast? If you do you will like roller coasters. Here are my tips:
Start Small: if you are not used to them a big coaster might scare you away from all of them. So its best to get used to them little by little
You can close your eyes: this sounds stupid but at first, I would always close my eyes when going up a roller coaster when it was too high. Little by little I felt more comfortable and started keeping my eyes open. Now it’s no big deal.
Maybe don’t start with a coaster but with another type of ride like a log fume ride. These rides usually just have a couple of small drops and one large drop. You are on water so its not like you are hanging in space. It will get you used to the drops.
Most of all have fun.

that's up to you . i would not go so far as to go on the biggest one say one with loops in it but a regular adult one would be fine . i suggest you take some gravol that day say one in the morning when you get up then another one on the way there and one half an hour before you go on the ride . this will help make sure you don't vomit and it will calm you down . makes you a bit sleepy but since you will be in such a hyper state i think it would just calm you .
you do know that all most everyone is afraid of something bugs dogs planes something and that unless this is really messing up your life its not really a phobia . you don't have to go on a roller coaster if you don't want .

how funny. just as of last year, i had a HUGE phobia to roller coasters. I could never get myself to ride anything but the kidi-coasters. Last summer my friend literally yanked me onto a big corkscrew filled coaster and it was amazing. you are o pumped up on adrenaline that you don't really pay attention to the height. I say go for the big coaster and see how it goes. That's how I fell in love with coasters. It'll help you get over your fear faster and much more effectively.

I'd start out with medium roller coasters, and either QUIT or work the rest of the way up.. I'm a bit scared of heights, but fine on roller coasters..Make sure you have a bottle of water after the ride to settle your stomach after being freaked out, by the heights..

If you live in the North East Coast in CT at Quassy Amussment Park they have a very small kitty coaster for all heights and ages that has only a couple of hills and turns nothing major.
