Don't worry about being popular. There are better things in life. But you do need to be yourself and you should get far in life.

Yes, be yourself, but that can also mean enhancing your best assets or improving upon others. For instance, get involved in a sports team and you will see how teams stick together and take care of each other. Join a club and use this as a way to meet new people. Learn a new hobby, or if there are certain people you know you want to make friends with, pay attention to what they are involved in and give it a try. You have to step up and put yourself out there. You will benefit from these confidence builders. People may not come to you but you can certainly find ways to make yourself known to them.

If you try to be popular, you will be away from yourself. Just take it easy. Being popular doesn't mean that you have good qualities, it just means catching others' attention. So be yourself, don't attempt.

...MANY people say that "just be yourself"..lets face it....you need to be MORE than just be yourself....i know it sounds weird but people these days are all about looks and stuff like that.. yeh!..there are WAYYY more important things than just looks butt its the truth...many people judge you by the way you look.. exactly. When I was in H.S. i didn't consider myself popular I was just myself. I never followed the in crowd(too much at least) I pride myself on being a Kool-ame which is a kool lame. its better that way you stay out of so much more trouble too!
