At 18 weeks a 'kick' won't feel like much more than a tickling/flutter sensation. Sharp pains in the lower stomach are often round ligament pains. If this pain comes on when changing position, particularly standing up from sitting it's most likely round ligament. It could be other things, bladder infection or something else. If it continues or is constant I would call your doctor.

At 18 weeks, you will feel sharp pains because your ligaments are beginning to stretch to accommodate the growing uterus. It is normally in a diamond pattern that starts at your sternum between your breasts but just below and ends at the top of your pelvic bone. Baby's kicks don't normally hurt, but the ligament stretching can feel like severe cramps. It lasts most of the 2nd trimester, but you shouldn't be worried. If you have any spotting or bleeding with it, you should consult your doctor. This is my 3rd baby, and I am going through the same thing right now. Sometimes the cramps double me over. When baby moves, it's a much more pleasant experience. But, I'm not going to say that in 3rd trimester a good swift kick to the rib won't make you cringe.

The sharp pain is your ligaments in your belly stretching. It's totally normal, and will stop happening around the time the top of your uterus is about 2 inches above your belly button. It happened with me in my second pregnancy, but not with my first. So to answer your question, no it's not a kick and no you shouldn't be worried.

Could be a kick, could be round ligament pain and stretching. Ask your doctor at your next appt. or go in for a sooner one if it becomes bothersome.

I am a little over 17 weeks and feel the exact same thing. My midwife says that it is the baby kicking.

lower stomach...you mean above your pelvis? if this is the location it is likely round ligament pain and is completly normal..its due to your tendons pulling and stretching

When the baby is that small it cannot hurt you. Wat you are feelibg could be you body reacting to the pregnancy- things are shifting around and things are getting squished. Mention it to your doctor, but I am sure it is "growing pains."
