That's what I wrote in my diary on the day it happened. "This is a day that will never be forgotten."

No.
Forever means 100 years, 200 years, 5 000, 10 000 years from now. We live in a highly-mediatized world where the immediate is always magnified out of proportion.
I know I'm going to get wailed on for what I'm about to say, but here's a few points:
1) 9/11 means absolutely nothing to a starving third-world child. His world was the same before, and after 9/11. And that's the case for a great part of humanity.
2) As I said, forever is a big word. Hiroshima and Nagazaki happened a mere 60 years ago. (Short by historical standards) - Yet, few of us now pay attention to the enormity of those events.
3) The only reason 9/11 "changed the world" is because there was such a political will in the United States to make sure it changed the world. It gave an excuse to politicians of all sorts to carry on foreign agendas they had been meaning to excuse for quite a while. A media overkill ensued, with a climate of criminalizing dissent.
4) There are about 40 000 traffic accident fatalities a year in the United States. In other words, every year, more than 10 times as many Americans die in traffic accidents as did during 9/11.
Am I saying we should not worry about terrorism? Of course not. Terrorism is a heinous crime and needs to be treated as such. But there's no need to turn everything on its head and to lose all sense of direction.
Just thought I'd put 9/11 in perspective. What did change is that when 9/11 happened, sober thought and perspective went down the drain.

It was certainly tragic and I'm truly sorry for people who lost loved ones.but the world will never be changed forever.
The sun will still shine ,rain fall etc...
Look at the world wars.
Awful loss of lives, but there have been other dictators and atrocities since.
We now have close ties to Germany but in my Grandfathers day they were the sworn enemy.
15 years ago my Grandad (who was a pilot in the war had a chance to meet the skipper and crew of a sub they had sunk (for which gramps was awarded a medal)The Crew had all been rescued (obviously)
In todays world were we now have good links with germany they all apologised and said they did what they did out of duty not malice
And so the world moves on.........
Now watch me get hundreds of thumbs down for my long and boring answer..

no, it didnt, terrible things happen EVERY BLOODY DAY. loads of innocent people are killed in the name of a corrupt cause in america, its like the end of the world, when it happens in iraq EVERY DAY its nothing. that really pi5ses me off. why do people give so much more worth to tragedys in english speakinmg countries than non engliah speaking countries?! its sick. i'm not saying it wasnt terrible, of course it was, but far worse and more politically significant tragedies have happened before and since.
people always say the world changed, tell me honestly, how? what has actuly changed in your life, HONESTLY. and even if your life has changed, do you think the life of everyone in the word has? NO it hasnt. not anymotre than any other major event, at least.
putting this giant stigma on 9/11 has allowed bush to do some terrible things, and i think people have to stop all this sentimental stuff and realise, yes, it was awful, but what is happening in the world today is worse and we SHOULD change it.

No, I don't think it changed the world forever. It was a sort of a blip on the historical record, but the world has pretty much gone on as it always has despite our stupid, short-sighted human behavior.

When the focus of your 'whole world' is one country...of course, it changed the face the world. The rest of the world continues to spin on its axis.

It definitely changed America. Civil liberties that we all appreciated are not gone. The "land of the free" isn't so free anymore, and all in the name of being "safe" from terror. But is anybody really "safe" from terror? If you can't walk down the street without fearing for your life, then you aren't living without terror.
