when you figure out the answer to this let me know! I am a week overdue and have been DYING of pain for about 3 weeks now. Just wait to see how you feel if your due date comes and goes...hopefully it wont, but just a forewarning. Supposedly sex, walking, nimple stimulation...nothing has worked for me though!!

Sex supposedly helps (if you can handle it @ this point ). One reason is b/c semen contains prostaglandins- which is actually in some of the chemicals they induce women with. It "ripens" your cervix. It's also b/c your body releases oxytocin when you orgasm which is the chemical that causes contractions.
Evening primrose oil also has loads of prostaglandins. There are several ways that you can use the oil: it can be applied to your skin, inserted via capsules, or ingested.
Castor Oil is another method (although there is much debate on the safety of this method). It's apparently not easy to get this stuff down & it's not always effective. It can ( & probably will) give you HORRIBLE diarrhea. A lot of the debate is b/c it can also cause the infant to release it's first bowel movement which can then get into it's lungs. The main concern, however, is that the mother can get extremely dehydrated b/c of the diarrhea. I don't recommend trying this method. Labor is hard enough without having to worry about self-inflicted dehydration & fatigue.
*I personally don't think that any of these methods will work for you unless your body (& the body of your infant) is ready.
The most effective method that I have found is walking. I didn't think that it was helping when I was overdue, but once labor finally happened, I realized how much of an effect it really had. I could hardly even walk, but when I did - I progressed.
Good luck- Remember it can't be that much longer!

You probably need to talk to your doctor. there are 'old wives tales' suggesting taking certain laxative type oils but I think that's a dangerous route to take. Your body will go when it's ready. Chances are you aren't 'dieing' in pain. It's the fact that it's only a week away and you're anxious. Try to get some rest- you'll need it especially after the baby comes.
I just had mine- he's a week old. I SO wish I had the chance to get a night's rest!! Take advantage of that while you can! You're almost there!

I don't know if I would have the nerve to try this..but my girlfriend was overdue and in great pain so her grandmother told her to drink some Castor Oil ..that was how they induced labor in the 'old days'..sure enough, she was in labor in just a few hours..BUT the downside to this is that she went into labor because the Castor Oil caused such severe diarhea that it slipped her right into labor!
Here is an article about it that I found:

To avoid a pitocin induction (gestational diabetes), I naturally helped my body go into labor 6 days before the induction. These are some of the things I did... (of course these are all things that will really only help if your body is ready for labor...)
*Asked doctor to strip membranes.
*Sex with hubby twice a day, make sure he ejaculates inside, the sperm loosens the cervix and thins it out naturally.
*WALK...up hills will often do the trick.
*If you must sit, get a birthing ball, it opens your pelvis and can keep things active down below
*nipple stimulation
I went into labor 2 days after my membranes were stripped...the same day I walked up and down hills (walked about 3 miles)...after 4 sessions with hubby and much birthing ball bouncing and nipple stimulation.
Good luck!

I understand what you are saying, but on the other hand, the baby is obviously not ready. You shouldn't try to self induce. If you go past your due date, then the doctor will decide when the time is right.

your bundle of joy will be here when its the right time. i wouldnt try home remedies that might put you and/or your baby at risk.
have you tried walking? sometimes that will help push things along, and its good for you and baby.

Keep walking. Be happy you aren't this pregnant in the dead of summer. You'd be dying and sweaty.
