I read that if you go a week past due most drs will do another ultrasound to make sure there is enough fluid and that the baby is doing ok, but my dr told me that there was no need and that he might do a stress test but thats it. Does this sound right? I have heard so much amniotic fluid getting dangerously low at the end of pregnacy and Im worries as I can def tell there is a decrease. Besides normal discomforts I have had a healthy pregnanct...normal weight and blodd pressure and the babies heart always sounds great...is this why he is not performing the ultrasound? He wont induce me until next week. Any input? Thanks!!

There is actually little point in doing an ultrasound at a week overdue.

Most Australian OBGYN's wouldn't do it unless they were concerned clinically that something was going wrong.

Induction at 42wks is also quite normal.

Really? How can you tell?

The baby's pretty big at this point--if there's 'less' fluid, it's because there's 'more' baby. I seriously doubt that you can 'tell' there's less fluid on your own, without a test confirming it.

The doc uses a lot of measures to check on the baby at this point--ultrasound is only one of them, but if all the other measures are normal, there's no need to use an ultrasound. If the baby is moving normally, the right size, in a good position, etc, being 'overdue' is nothing to worry about. Especially with a first baby, 41 weeks is the 'norm' anyway. Babies come when they're ready--why rush them? You really don't want to be induced unless it's absolutely necessary anyway. It may be annoying and uncomfortable to wait, but it's not dangerous. Even past 42 weeks is not automatically dangerous, if all signs are checking out OK.

i'm at school suitable now for ultrasound. There are no longer any standard risky part consequences on the toddler from an ultrasound. whether, in specific situations the toddler pays attention the ultrasound, from the sound waves passing interior the path of the amniotic fluid. The sound could be fairly loud, yet this purely happens if the waves are directed in direction of the toddler's ear. It nevertheless isn't risky inspite of the indisputable fact that. i'm shocked inspite of the indisputable fact that that your wellbeing care expert did no longer opt to tell you why you would be able to desire to have your amniotic fluid checked with an ultrasound. Your wellbeing care expert would not order this if he/she felt that your amniotic fluid grow to be conventional. you need to ask why you pick those ultrasounds. whether, ask your wellbeing care expert, no longer the ultrasound technician, using fact it ought to be techniques that the ultrasound technician isn't allowed to offer.

"If this is your first pregnancy, then your pregnancy will quite likely be longer. Usually, the first-time mom averages 8 days beyond her 40-week due date, if she is white and a private-care patient. (Women of color tend to have slightly shorter pregnancies, as do women not under private-insurance care, for whatever reason."--http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/figuring.htm

Your doctor is right to wait on the ultrasound because the odds are that you will deliver a little past the 41 week mark. NST's are quite reliable and can tell if the baby is doing ok or not. Good luck!
Also, if you think you are leaking fluid then you should mention it to your doc.

My daughter was born a week over due and she is fine. But I would let your doctor know if you have concerns. I wasnt happy that the doctor let me go a week over due but the felt that was fine for me. Talk to your doctor and if need to get a second opionion.

I would Demand an Ultrasound and or induction. But with my first child he had a health condition when he was born that could have been discovered if i had a late ultrasound. Your the one paying him/her to do the job...they arnt paying you to have the baby!

I think this is pretty normal, especially for a first baby.
