I recall that in the History of Magic class, Hogwarts students study witches who were burned at the stake. That kind fo brutal execution of suspected witches did actually occur in Great Britain, the United States, and in other parts of the world. And so, Rowling at least makes a connection between her witches and wizards and historical witches and wizards.

Nonetheless, Rowling doesn't offer much in the way of information about spells, how to perform them, and so on as one would expect from a proponent of a religion. Her focus is on unfolding the mystery of a boy who is talented beyond measure and has no idea how talented. Magic is simply a fantasy canvas onto which Harry Potter is painted.

First off, Harry Potter has nothing to do with witchcraft. The magic in that book is completely and obviously fictitious. Witchcraft does not consist of invisibility, made-up words, or dragons.

The people critisizing these books are so blinded by what is "right" that they have become quite ignorant!

NO!!!!! I know how you feel. And I'm just as fed up as you. If they would just expand their mind a little and stop thinking that anything having to do with witches is a big blob of evil. The witches and wizarsds in Harry Potter are children and noble people. Not to mention that Harry Potter is a imaginative, entertaining STORY. S-T-O-R-Y. Fun filled fiction.

NO no no no no no no!
I'm a huge fan of the series, and you don't see me going around doing "witchcraft"
It's completely ridiculous to even THINK that. I mean, what the heck?! People who say that are just stupid. Anyone with half a brain knows that it's a children's FICTION series, it's not real, it's not meant to be taken as real.
And the people, particularly Christians, who believe that HP promotes witchcraft, do tell me, why is it that The Chronicles of Narnia don't? That series has magic in it, does it not? But no, that's a Christian story, that's not promoting witchcraft.
Well, if the Chronicles of Narnia don't do it, then people shouldn't even dare say that HP does.

I have read lots of books similar to Harry Potter, and i think it's just a story. JK Rowling isn't a witch. She simply did research on other imaginatory stories similar to HP and used some of that info so she wouldn't confuse people. That's all.

Well, considering the fact that J. K. Rowling has openly stated in interviews that she has practiced witchcraft herself and put real craft elements in her books, then I would say yes. There is fact included in fiction and a good fiction writer will weave truth and fallacy together skillfully so that the lines are blurred. Sometimes truth is taken out of context (like the DaVinci Code books). Sometimes truth is disguised in such a way to make it more acceptable to audiences who might otherwise object (like the occult elements in the Harry Potter series). Think about it.... if Rowling had preferenced her books with "the elements of the occult and witchcraft in this book are real" do you think people would have bought it? Of course not. Most parents don't want their kids reading that sort of material. But if witchcraft is disguised as "harmless fun" or "only fiction" then most people are none the wiser.

Honey, I am a witch. Harry Potter is pure fiction/fantasy and if people think it should be banned or not even read should also avoid Shakespeare, Dickens, The Brothers Grimm, Mark Twain and Mother Goose!! I mean really they all have witches and or ghosts! It does not make the tales true or lead to witchcraft or spiritualism.

Harry Potter is so far from evil. Harry Potter promotes wonder, awe, inspiration, and actually highlights the fight between good and evil, and good always triumphs. Great stuff! Ignore all those silly people who've lost their sense of wonder with life!

give me a break, harry potter promoting witchcraft, bout as likely as the Bible promoting homosexuality. just because there is magic in the books, doesn't mean that it's promoting it. criticising is easier done, and to be honest people could just criticise her writing skills, which compared to some other authors, are just average. no definitely not, laughable really.

quite, I in no way theory Harry Potter "promoted" witchcraft. anybody that makes use of Christianity to assert that for the time of all probability has in no way study the books to work out in basic terms how plenty they have in undemanding with Biblical custom. As St Basil the great of Caesarea mentioned :"Take that that's stable, even from pagan authors, and income from it". of direction, maximum who make such claims with regard to the Potter series care no longer something with regard to the saints, the two.
