Often when I get sick I end up with a bad cough and coughing up mucus from my lungs. I go to the doctor and they always say the same thing, you are just getting better & clearing it up. Nothing we can do take some pain medicine for the cough. aka just deal with it lol. So I am wondering if there are other things I can try to help break it down? I often drink herbal tea and that helps some with soothing my throat. Anything else?

If the mucus is really thick, try Mucinex from the pharmacy.(otc) It really helps thin out the thick stuff. Be sure if you are going for the generic that it has the same miligrams as the brand. (guaifenesin 600mg) It works great! If you have stuffy nose with that use the Mucinex DM. Best thing I have tried. I does leave a nasty taste in your mouth the next day but it's a small price to pay. Keep taking the herbal tea for your throat and lemon with honey to keep the cough from irritating your throat too much. I make a batch and put it in a little jar. When my throat is irritated, I just take a spoon full of that. anytime. Hope you feel better soon.

1/4 cup lemon juice (breaks up the mucus) add 2-4 tablespoons honey (soothes the throught) add water to taste, but the stronger the better. Drink hot. If it is late at night a little apple cider vinegar can be added as a muscle relaxer. (1-2 teaspoons vinegar) From my experience this works as good as anything.

Simmer 3-4 cloves of fresh garlic in about an ounce of olive oil on low heat for about 1 minute. Let it cool. Take two teaspoons of the olive oil every four hours. No one will kiss you but the cough will break up.
