People compare Kobe to Jordan because they have a similar build and are the exact same height. Plus Kobe's moves were learned from watching Jordan. He is probably the most similar to Jordan so far. As far as talent he's on Jordan's level. Jordan was amazing but I've seen Kobe do some things that Jordan didn't. Jordan had a better inside game but Kobe compensates for it with a better outside game. The biggest difference between them is the size of their hands. Jordan was great and likeable but Kobe is a different person and cool in his own way. I think the whole arguement that he is a ball hog and cocky is blow way out of proportion. Phil Jackson doesn't think he's a ball hog so why are what sports writers opinions taken more seriously then a man who coached Jordan, Shaq, and Kobe? Also Phil Jackson himself says Kobe is as good as Jordan so what difference does it make what you say?

Kobe is a great player, but if Jordan is a 10, Kobe probably rates about 7.5. Wilt would be the closest pre-Jordan player at about 8.5-9.5. Bird and Magic would have to rate at 8-9.
The main reason for the comparison is that they both play for Phil Jackson and that the NBA needs good press.

I don't know. There is no comparison. Kobe is a gunner. Kobe is selfish. Kobe doesn't compare to Jordan,Bird, Magic, Isiah, Malone, Stockton, Mchale, Kareem, Worthy...he doesn't even compare with Pippen.

Kobe canonly be compared with other gunners like T-Mac, Paul Pierce, Dominique Wilkins, etc.

Kobe cares about the points line in the box score. He is trying to build a resume and that is exactly why he is different from the guys I mentioned above.

When Kobe began his career the NBA was desperate for an heir apparent to Jordan. Their will never be another Michael Jordan in the game of basketball, it is mostly a hype machine to attempt to sell more tickets. I am a lakers fan and I love Kobe Bryant and I have seen him do some amazing things, but Jordan changed the game.

These comparisons to Michael Jordan are not uncommon in the NBA. It is not only Kobe who is being compared to his Airness, there's also Wade, T-Mac, LeBron, etc. I think that the NBA is desperate to have another Jordan in their program. It is because basketball was at a high during the era of Mike. I think it's ridiculous, because Jordan's legacy is unique and I think it would be an utter insult to compare him to the mortals.

Skill-wise Jordan and Kobe are very close. We will probably never see a player like Jordan carry his team to so many championships. It never happened before, we won't see it again.

Actually, due to NBA rules changes, we will never see a team like the 96-98 Bulls win a championship (can't go with all big guards these days since they call every hand-check now)

Both are scoring machines, except Jordan never made as much points in a single game than Kobe record.

Because Kobe is not in the same league as Jordon. Michael unlike Kobe did not only take the big shot--he made the big shot. Kobe is not afraid to fail---he just is afraid to try to think of others. Michael was about winning and he was not afraid to trust his teammates to obtain that goal.

There is no comparison, Jordan is a legend in his own time. Kobe is a great ball player, he'll never be a legend like Jordan.

kobe is being kobe, in every interview when people will compare players to jordan they just say im just trying to be me, which is true, you cant make your career like the one who preceeded you, otherwise youll just stress yourself out trying to be jus like him or better, jordan never scored 81 points in a game, but yet he didnt need to because he had a great team, so compare all you want but kobe is trying to invent himself and who knows next thing you know you will hear people comparing players to kobe soo thts what i think
