Can i be fired over an email i sent from my personal account at home to another persons personal home account, and have that email used to fire me from my employment. I used a profanity to describe the place, but didn't even say the name of the company.

It was my account, not a work account set up by me at my home thru an internet server, Not at all work related and was not sent to someone who worked at my place of employment. The person gave it to someone who works there and they passed it along.

It sounds like if the emails were sent to an email address provided by the employer that the employer hasd every right to check up on what is being sent to and from his email addresses. It's a question of ownership of the account and he owns it, so he has every right to look at it. It's the same thing with regular mail. If you were to send her letters adderessed to her at the company then as soon as the post office delivers it to the address then the employer or anybody can open it and you have no grounds for complaint. The only time mail fraud or tampering would apply in a case like this is if the letters were intercepted before they reached the delivery address.

Do a google on blog + fire and yes, happens everyday. Do a google on email + fired and it's not so prevalent, but it has happened. Freedom of speech ends at the keyboard. :(
Americans workers work as in "free choice". The trade-off is: you can be fired for a good reason, a bad reason or no reason. The benefit is: you can quit if you want to.

In a non-unionized employment situation....sure. You work for the company or individual. If I had someone bad mouth my company that pays his salary, I would give him the opportunity to work elsewhere. What difference would it make how I came across the information? Especially on an email that identified you.

Perhaps, may depend on the company and their computer usuage polices. They may collect information on who sent the email and who received it. They may say that you send to many emails to an account that's that for business. Don't make it a habit of using the companies computers to send to personal accounts, they may accuse you of leaking information.

No, since the emails were sent on your personal time away from the workplace and you sent the message to the other person's personal email. The only exception would be if you are sending stuff to your boss and harrassing them.

No but they can find other ways to mess with you if they set their minds on it. Stay "below the radar" to make your working life easier.

I don't think they can do that, that is your personal life that you can say anything you want and do anything you want. They have to have a legitimate reason for firing you.
