Try looking on the price comparison site travelsupermarket.com that should give you an idea. At least flying from London should reduce the price a bit. But the prices are starting to go up a bit now for Japan. You might struggle to get it for 400 or under. Good luck!!

It isn't about where but when. The cheapest time to go to Japan is in March and April. I would just check out the usual e-ticket services to find the best deal. Also avoid Golden Week to travel (first week of May) and the weeks both before and after it, because these can be really expensive.

Try Finnair, they fly every day from London to Helsinki, and they have several direct flights every week to 3 different locations in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya).

Also the flight time from Helsinki to Japan is quite short and comfortable because of the shorted distance.

To both shorten the distance and reduce the cost, you could try flying from Hong Kong.

When are you looking to go - think you'll be looking at nearer to £500 if you go in the next month. Virgin direct to Tokyo has great service.
