Question is too vague. Best what? Best British actor of the day? Best silent actor? Best businessman in the movie business? Actor who married the most women? Most creative actor/director? Maybe all of the above are true.
He did make a few movies that weren't silent. One of those is the The great dictator which is a classic. Based on Hitler and banned in Germany at the time, it's said that Hitler personally viewed this film three times.
Basically, a man without a country who died in Switzerland in 1977 after a long brilliant career.

i'd be singing this song by tina tuner-simply the best-he was it plain and simple,next come's mr been.
without charley chaplin we would not know what to do to have a laugh,silent but you could laugh and double over.hat's off to him.i would show him to my great great gran kid's and even they would be in stitches.
