Longleat is lovely but expensive you have to pay seperate for the attractions, but would reccommend Paignton Zoo or if that's too far for you try Bristol Zoo check out the web pages I have been to all these places I just checked distances from Essex for you on the aa that is the last link I don't know where you are in Essex so I put Essex County Hospital as a starting point and it came up with from there by car to ......

Paignton Zoo is 269.3 miles
Bristol Zoo is 192.2 miles
Longleat is 183.3 miles
Knowsley is 255.5 miles
Woburn is 98.6 miles

I would still say Longleat is better for slightly older children because younger ones could get bored by sitting on the tour bus of the safari park

Bristol Zoo and Paignton Zoo are worth it, Paigton zoo I know is a fair way but it is huge and great value for your money, My husband and I go about once a month as we live so close to there

What about 'Monkey World' in Weymouth,Dorset? The place on Animal Planet. I'd love to visit there but too far to drive from Manchester-looks fun though.
Never been to Longleat but I have been to Knowsley and that was good.

We took our grandaughter to Longleat last year (she was 10) and she absolutely loved it. There was so much to see, that it could not be done in one day! We have promised to take her back to see the rest this year and she can't wait. Take a look on their website, it is such a beautiful place.

Hi, sorry I live in Yorkshire so I don't know of any down south, but your best bet would be to look on this website.

Knowsley Safari Park is good but it may be a bit far for you to travel.
