I was driving home today from London when my 8 year old reckons I got flashed twice,
I don't think I was speeding but I now am not sure if I was or not,
Would I notice ??
I'm really worried as I've only been driving 5 weeks.

Yell love, I am relaxed but in the UK it's 2 tickets which is 6 points and they take your license, you get banned for a year and have to take your test again
So I'm really paranoid over getting caught out

You would notice if you got flashed especially by the new style cameras that you drive towards.

Some roads also have average speed cameras and they don't flash so best thing is just not to speed! The poor old motorist always cops it.

Legal loophole that many people don't know about - if you don't get the notice about speeding within 2 weeks of the incident, then you can't actually be prosecuted if you dispute it and take it to court.

A friend of mine got off speeding like that over the Xmas period because she didn't get the notice till 3 weeks after! Good luck and I hope you didn't get caught.

As has already been said, not all cameras flash and also if it DID flash it might have been looking at someone else; if you're happy about your speed it may well have been the latter, but the only way to be sure is to wait for that pleasant little envelope, which will be posted within 14 days.

There's nothing you can do now, so try not to panic.

Just to dispel a couple of myths -

1) Not all cameras 'flash' if you pass them whilst exceeding the speed limit. All recent camera installations (fixed and mobile) use infra-red to take the picture, so there is NO flash. They are also unaffected by mist, fog, snow or rain.

2) New fixed cameras do not use film - the picture is taken digitally and sent directly to the D.V.L.A. by a modem in the base of the installation.

The first time most people know they have been caught, is when the Notice of Intended Prosecution lands on their doormat...

Yes you would notice if a Gatso type in a yellow box flashed. They normally flash twice.
Cameras in vans don't flash.
If you don't hear back within 2 weeks then you are ok. they normally get the Notices out in two or three days. These cameras make me sick, they are nothing but revenue raisers and nothing to do with safety. It's disgusting that everytime we go out or go on a driving holiday we never know if we have a speeding fine when we get back. They should all be blown up.Good luck anyway.

can i just say to ne1 about speed cameras they can be dodgy things my hubby got flashed the other day doin 25 mph in a 30mph zone (the car in front was doin 25 coming upto a junction) the reason he got flashed is that it was rainin and the car on other side of road had just dropped his lights off full beam meanin we were on a country lane the rain can effect the speed camera. best thing to do is invest in a snooper they will beep when a speed camera is comin up but will not pick up a copper holdin a speed gun.

If it was a new style camera then no as they dont flash as it is all done by infared. if it was an old GATSO then yes it would flash .....was there another car going the other way when it happened....might not of been you speeding......cameras that face towards you with a purple lense do not flash.....if 28 days has passed since it happened and you have not had anything through the post you are in the clear.......as they have to send you the notice within 28 days of the incedent...

If the camera flashed the chances are you've been clocked,If you were only a couple of mph's above the speed limit you may not get a speeding ticket, you'll just have to wait and see. I wish you luck.

Im sure you would have noticed. I think speed cameras cause more harm than good. Your consentrating that hard on not speeding passed the camera that your not looking at the road. I think if you have been flashed you find out within 14 days... good luck

Relax there is nothing you can do about it until the letter comes through the door. If it does at all.
If you are paranoid about cameras that you can see check out the link below, then you can see how hard the police work at trying to catch you.
