Okay my brother just got a dragon fish and I know hes not going to take care of it like its supposed to be, but heres the deal. The dragon fish lives in a 10 gallon tank with a puffer fish. I heard that they eat dried blood worms or something but how do i get them down to its level so he can eat them. And is this normal? Okay we had these little rock houses things in the tank and the dragon fish stayed in one of them for 2 days and i thought he was stuck so finally today i got him out and took out the hut he was in. Was that normal or was he really stuck? Please answer im afarid he will die.

First, a dragon fish loves to hide and needs as many hiding places as you can give him. You should put the hut back and also provide a few rocks near the corners or a piece of driftwood for him to hide behind or under.

Second, he does prefer to eat at night, so feeding him after the lights are turned off on the tank is best. Try feeding him frozen bloodworms or sinking pellet foods. Get the "meaty" pellets for him.

He will eventually out grow a 10 gallon tank and your brother should trade the fish in for a smaller one when it's almost as long as the tank.

Your goby will like to hide - it's their nature. You can put the cave back, and add some plastic, silk, or real plants for them to hide under, too.

The gobies are filter feeders - they'll sift through the stuff that falls to the bottom of the tank - but as you've noticed, freeze-dried food floats! Frozen blood worms (not freeze-dried) are a better choice. Most of these will sink when frozen, so it will only be a problem to keep the puffer from eating them all. You can buy a cheap turkey baster and use this to squirt the bloodworms right in front of the goby. You may want to put some elsewhere, so the puffer doesn't try to steal them.

Another food that works for them is shrimp pellets. The puffer will like these too. Make sure your puffer gets his share, and be careful of the two of them together. Puffers tand to be aggressive and nip fins of other fish. And you'll eventually need a bigger tank for the goby, so one can live in each.

BTW, your puffer should be getting occassional snails or pieces of real shrimp with the hard outer surface left on. These fish have a "beak" and need something hard to nibble to keep it trimmed.

dragonfishes have very small eyes that are sensitve to light.
They are a nocturnal fish and are cave dwellers. Hate to say it but Those gobies are what they call a novelty fish just like the painted glassfish. They rarely live long in an aquarium so don't feel bad if you lose those fish all of the sudden.I'm sure that you did your best .

violet gobies are brackish fish, not freshwater.
unless you have a brackish tank, return him to the store.

they're relatively peaceful fish and i'd be worried about him being in with an aggressive little puffer fish (i presume a dwarf puffer?).

there's a really nice article about violet gobies in this month's Practical Fishkeeping magazine.

If you start to notice holes in your fish's fins--------the puffer is your prime suspect----they are usually nippers and will kill the more docile species
