I keep getting "Error 721. The remote computer did not respond". It's all very hit n' miss. What does this mean and how can I fix it?
Thanks very much for your help.

Error 721 is "Remote PPP peer is not responding" error, a few thing you can try
1. check the cable connection to your modem(if it is externel modem), go to control panel, phone and modem options, modems tab, properties, diagnostic tab, query modem, if there is return in the mid window, your modem is working okay, otherwise try reinstall software come with modem.
2. reinstall the software provided by your isp
3. Click on the Windows Start button, select Connect To and choose Show all connections, right click on your isp connection icon to choose properties, security tab, ensure Allow unsecured password is selected, click ok.
4. try a different connection number if your isp has more than 1 number for connection
Hope this would help.

The "remote computer" is your internet service provider and it is programmed to get a request from your computer with some very specific information. If what your computer does not have the kind of specific request that the remote computer (server) is looking for, most often it will not respond. The kind of request I'm talking about is having the correct screen name and password. Check with customer service of your ISP. They created your connection program; they are required to be able to fix it.

Note: "Required" is a key word. Can also be exchanged with "supposed", "know how to" so on and so forth.

that error is when your service provider isn't answering when you try to log on, get in touch with them and ask what's going on or if they're not very helpful find a new service provider
