Emo started in the 80's and pretty much died in the 90's. You don't hear true emo music anymore. Just go back to the original DC bands that spawned the scene, say, TheRites Of Spring.
AFI ain't emo but they were a hardcore/punk powerhouse back in the old days. Say 12 years ago. Research old-school AFI. Great punk.

um.... well if you want some true punk, go for some brit punk bands....
the damned, the ramones, the clash, sex pistols... generation x (they aren't brit)
um yeah then i also recommend the frustrators and green day (try both old and new stuff of theirs, look for their album "Dookie" it's a good punk album) and AFI (again, search old and newer) is good too...
