Wear a tight, binding sports bra or ace bandage around your chest to hold your breasts in as tight as possible to reduce any swelling or further milk supply (make sure you wear breast pads to stop the leaking!). Whatever you do, DON'T pump or express any milk because this will only stimulate milk production more and you will have an even harder time stopping your flow. You can take Tylenol to reduce the pain from the swelling too. Also, warm compresses (washcloth or whatever) will help to relieve some of the pain.

I wore 3 small sports bras, all at the same time, to keep them real tight and close so my milk wouldn't come in. I only took them off to shower, then I put them right back on.
I've also heard the cabbage leaf thing works, relieves the heat and swelling, something in the leafs?

The pain only last a couple of days. Please don't give up now. Breast milk is best for the baby. They don't spit up as often and when they do it doesn't smell as bad as formula. They can tolerate breast milk better then formula. they are less likely to have allergies. Breast milk helps keep from having ear infections. My son was breast fed and my daughter wasn't. My daughter kept ear infections. My son has never had one, he is now 2. There are a number of other reasons why you shouldn't give up yet.

there's only 3 ways i know of to relieve the swellin' 1. feed that baby 2. pump out the breast milk w/ a pump 3. turn on a warm shower and let it run on your breast....do not put any kind of ointment on breast/nipples.

Give nursing a try! You never know you might like it! Otherwise Ace wrap tightly and don't pump or nurse if you don't want to and you want to dry up.

Put your baby to your breast and let them latch on. Works every time.

Why can't you breastfeed? That is the quickest way to relieve them.
