I went for a smear 4 days ago and it was really uncomfortable. I had a slightly pink discharge til the next day. I avoided intercourse for 3 days but when I did it I felt a bit sore and the next day I had a blood stained discharge. It's only a bit and nothing like a period. I had just finished my period when I had it done so it's not that. I was perfectly fine before it. Could she have damaged my cervix? If so will it get better?

It's quite common after a smear to have a bit of light bleeding and doesn't mean there has been any damage.
The tip of the swab used for taking the smear needs to go a little way into the cervix in order to gather cells from the inside of the cervix.
It can depend on the time of your cycle as well.
You were wise to avoid intercourse just in case especially if you were worried.

Ok, if you are really worried about it go back to the doctor. Sometimes a pinkish discharge is normal after a pap smear. Oh and if you just get off your period and have sex sometimes it can cause the pinkish discharge and pain. Sometimes having sex so close to getting your period can make you start early.

Don't worry the same thing happened to me. It was really painful and I had quite a lot of bleeding after for a few days but I called the doctor and he said there was nothing to worry about, ther cervix had just been rubbed sore. If you are worried call your doctor or the NHS to reassure you.

You may have had a cervical erosion, this is a raw area on the cervix that is very fragile. Smear tests tend to cause these to become inflamed and bleed. Go get your doctor to have another look and check. If it is just that it is not serious.

most likely you had it done before the womb had finished repairing itself after your period. I had a smear test just before mine period was due, I had a similar problem.

The nurse told me not to worry, but advised me to have my next smear between weeks 2 and 3 of my cycle.

Don't think she has damaged you, maybe you were unconsciously too tense, as you found the smear painful but unless it happens again, I shouldn't worry. If in doubt go to the doctor.

It is unlikely she has damaged you internally, what she has done is bruised you. You were sensible to avoid intercourse for a few days now you need time to heal.
If you start having a discharge that is smelly or you are not completely happy after a few more days go and see her again.

dont worry, she was just a bit rough! i bled for 2 days after my smear and it was my period, just pinkish discharge! and yes if she made your cervix bleed it will heal, just think how much battering the cervix takes when a woman gives birth!!so dont worry it will sort!xx

try not to worry she didn't damage you for good.. just a few days is all.. it may have bruised you or caused a little scratch... if the discomfort doesn't go away in a few days and you start to notice a nasty smell then you need to go back and see her right away as this could be from an infection... good luck and hope you feel better soon.

I would get checked again just in case it's something else. But I've had a bad scrape before and it hurt.

I avoid paps like the plague because it always hurts, but I wouldnt suggest you go my route. I'm not active and haven't been for like 12 years.

my mum was telling me last year that her friend went for a smear test and the lady used a different instrument,it was the same as the metal instrument usually used but this was plastic.
She said her friend(carol) felt awful afterward and was bleeding, she said she felt sick and was like this for a few days.
Did you see what was used for your smear,if it was the plastic instrument you may have the same problem my mums friend had, because it was a new instrument the lady wasnt familiar with it and cut her inside
