You don't give much away in your question. This answer is assuming you are in the United Kingdom.
If you are referring to State benefits issued by the Social Security, home ownership is not relevant as the capital value of the property you have as your main residence does not come into the equation.
Most, but not all State Benefits are means tested: therefore what does matter is your capital (investments, money in the bank, second properties etc) and your income.
You would be better to enquire at the Department of Works and Pensions if you have any specific enquiries.

Yes you can, but it will depend on what your circumstances are and what benefits you may qualify for. Make an appointment to see the Income Maximisation team at your citizens advice bureau if they have one if you are unsure on anything, they will tell you exactly what you are entitled to and they can help complete the forms, which they have at their offices.

At a jobcentre plus you will be advised a lot of different conflicting views, remember that it is their job to get you into employment. If you want advice over the phone, call Income Support, your local jobcentre plus will have the right number for the district you need.

They may even be able to pay the interest on your mortgage if you have one, owning a home will not prevent you getting benefits, but it is likely to affect the decision in some way. If you have savings of over £16,000, you probably will not qualify for benefits, but please see the CAB as they are really impartial.
