Most places you just apply. Takes a few minutes and pay a nominal fee.

You will have to maintain all expense records and receipts, as well as having your taxes prepared quarterly.

As with ANY business involving the public: the most important advice I can give is to make sure you have BUSINESS LIABILITY INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!! If not and someone gets hurt, even a minor scathe, you can be financially ruined for many, many years to come.

It's usually as easy as 1-2-3.

1 - Register a company name (optional)
2- Get a business license from your city clerks office
3- Get a sales tax permit from your state.

There's not much more to being ready to operate legally. Some rules can vary by city or state, so when you get the business license, you should ask if there are any other permits you need besides the sales tax.
