Recently, I was talking to my family about jobs, careers, dreams, etc., and I mentioned that I wouldn't mind cooking because I'm obsessed with food and buying cooking equipment, etc. Then they made the remark "noo! cooking is for women, you are a man you're supposed to find a real job" (these were women who said this btw).
That comment really pissed me off, but I'm starting to wonder now, is it true? Are guys who like to cook really just "feminine"? I didn't know that females and males had such inherent qualities and skills.

Actually, I have a cousin that is my age and he's taking a culinary course in college. He loves to cook and has been doing so for quite sometime now. Nope, he's not feminine at all, far from it. He has a girlfriend and lives with her and they plan on getting married. Another great example is my Godfather. He's a cook as well and he's been a cook ever since I was born, that was around 20 years ago. He's still doing it, has a family of 3 children. The only thing that's the problem are long hours. Just be prepared for working long shifts.
I think cooking as a man scores you tons of points, especially with the ladies. Plus, if you want to live on your own you'll be capable of preparing your own food.

It is just an old stereotype left over from the fifties and sixties. Women should stay home and do the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children, while men are suppose to be the breadwinners and get a job to take care of the family by putting a roof over their heads and food in the home. The only time men were cooks was in the resturant business. There they were called chef's. During this time women did not work much as they were not considered equals. Good thing these times are over, but there are a few people out there who do not want to let go of the past.

Cooking has never been just a female's job!!!
Think about families that have a butler instead of a maid/female house keeper/cook....
Here in southern Louisiana, USA, cooking is a man's pride & joy; especially on weekends or holidays.
My father raised two children w/ no help of a female once he got home from work.

No!!! Most of the great chefs of today are men, and absolutely NOT feminine! I've worked with some of the best (Wolfgang, Calkins) and they rock as family men.
Cooking is a skill, an artform, and if you have the touch, you ought to persue it as a career.
A head chef's salary usually starts with 6 figures, nothing girly about that!

Where on earth did you grow up? Women by the nature of having babies since the beginning of time have had these roles. If you are talking about the times we live in now, it's probably not a big deal. Do what makes you happy and you will be happy.
