Metroid Prime:Hunters, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, Hotel Dusk, Sonic Rush, Brain Age, and Final Fantasy 3. Those should give you a pleasant distraction without making you feel childish. ;P

Well, I found "NEW Super Mario Bros" + "Mario Kart DS" great (despite the fact I'm gonna hit 28 on Tuesday)......... while "Mario & Luigi: Partners in time" has kept me busy for over a year, and I still ain't finished it.
Some more "grown up" suggestions would probably be:
- SIMS2
- Tetris DS
- Dr Kawashima's Brain Training
- Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
Coming sooner or later:
- The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass

Depends what sort of gamer you are actually, do you like racing/strategy/rpgs?
I'm not sure about Animal Crossing tbh because I thought it was pretty childish. I'm currently playing Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin. This game is pretty tough (I cheated using walkthroughs) but I've been hooked on it, I was playing it all weekend.
New Super Mario Bros. is a classic everyone should have.
Other games I recommend: Final Fantasy, Age of Empires, Kawashima's Brain Training,
