I found out this winter that alcohol works. Used rubbing alcohol on a winshield and all the ice rinsed off.

I ran out of rock salt last week but i had a big thing of epsom salts in the bathroom worked like a charm!

Yes, it is blue in colour and sort of like salt but doesn't hurt plants or interlocking brick. I am stuck for the name of it, but it goes under ice melter.

If you are having trouble getting out of an icy driveway you can try using kitty litter. Sounds strange, but it works.
