I got a beta fish on wednesday and he has been fine, not really eating but he is still adjusting. Today I was looking at him and I saw that he has a hole in his tail. its closer to his body and it looks like he just got a rip in his tail. Does anyone know why this could have happened? It looks like a clean rip but i dont know what it could be from because he only has marbles at the bottom of his tank. Thank you!

Pin holes and rips both can be caused by ammonia in the water. If the tank was not cycled before you put him in that may be the cause of the problem. Both will eventually heal, but will take quite some time.

Elevated ammonia levels could also explain why he's not eating well. You may want to check the ammonia levels and change water if needed to lower it.

It sounds like you've not been cleansing their water, and tank/bowl oftentimes adequate. Your betta has fin rot that's ninety 9% of the time brought about by ability of too a lot fish waste in the water. also over feed can make his water strengthen waste even speedier. also at the same time as some betta are patently jumpers. they tend to leap more beneficial oftentimes at the same time as water situations are undesirable. Steps to take: 0)clean the tank/bowl asap. eliminate him to a cup of bowl/tank water. Wash the gravel thoughly wit warm water. (do not use cleansing soap) Get some water a similar temp as his contemporary water and positioned him back in. a million)bypass to the fish save and purchase both melafix, or bettafix, and cope at the same time with his water. 2)study the decrease than betta communicate links. playstation - Betta do not devour their fins, and may stay for 2-4 years. (easily 3-5 yet save betta are ~ a million year old)

It could have already been there and you didn't notice it. Do you have a filter or heater in the tank. If so, he could have torn it from swimming behind or around them. Their tails are very delicate and can tear easily.

With this being Saturday, he should definitely be eating by now. What have you been feeding him? I found that mine love the Hikari Betta Bio-Gold. Is the tank cycled? Are you doing daily water changes to remove ammonia and nitrite?

sounds like your betta had gotten in a fight previously he'll be fine( it's a male if it has alot of fin and i'm guessing it's a fancy male which is popular) if you're worried about it take him back to the store you got him from unless it's walmart and if that's the case take him to a petsmart and don't forget your reciept so they can't say you stole him. petsmart's fish people usually know they're stuff but if you know of a better place then by all means take him there. by the way they love blood worms but some don't, just get betta gold and he'll be fine and colorful soon enough

those can be cause when bettas flare their fins and overdo it, effectively blowing a hole in it. keep his water clean and water levels (ammonia non-existant, no waste food) stable and it should heal fine. if you notice anything unusual with it healing, a half dose of melafix will help it.

he more then likely had it there when you brought him, nothing to panic about my poor little had 1/2 his tail missing (guppy's ate it away) and his has grown back beautifully , so dont worry to much.
