God has given us the gift of life, and he also gave us the gift of free agency. We are allowed to make our own choices, and when we choose badly, bad things happen to us, or to others because of our actions.

The reason we have free agency is so that we can learn and grow. A child learns very little if it is constantly told what to do and forced to do those things.

Life can certainly suck. I think people should feel good most of the time and we need to work toward this. But God gives us free will and imperfection. If God created us and let's us improve our species then there will be bad things happening that cannot be controlled.

In some way we are not unlike ants. We can get randomly stepped on. But we also control our future to some extent and can make life good or bad. The big other is that other people also have free will which they can use to hurt people. On a grand scale even, Hitler killed 3% of the human population, 63 Million people (including combatants).

The things we can do are to make life good for others because as the saying goes, what goes around comes around.

Bad things happen. There are lessons to be learned from them. It's how we "grow up" and, with any wisdom, learn something from it all. It tests our strength. There are times when I look at this world, all the unjustices and devastating crimes, shake my head (even cry) and feel like giving up on humankind altogether. Then I look at the incredibly wonderful people in my life, those living and dead, and know that it's not all bad. It's taken me a very long time to understand this and it's different for everyone. I've looked into a lot of religions and spiritual fads trying to find answers and while I may not believe in a traditional god I do know there's something out there that. I believe. Too many things have happened for me not to doubt it. In my personal life and looking back, it's the people who have hurt me the most that I've learned the most from. Ironic, huh?

That's ok. You can be an agnostic like me. That means you're undecided on the issue of whether or not God exists. I think there are good cases on either side. Sometimes you're closest to the truth when you're willing to admit you don't have the all answers. Why do bad things happen? Maybe facing adversity is the only way people can learn and progress spiritually.

It's not what happens to you, it's how you handle it. When life dishes out the punches, just stay as positive as possible. Eight years ago, I got kicked out of my house. Lived with an abusive fiance for 6 months, then a sex fiend for 2 years, and then 2 roommates and 6 cats for 4 months. I've been with the same guy now 4 years, and getting married in Oct. I went from preppy to goth to football stepmom and I do not regret any of it. I think about how many good things I had rather than focus on the negative things.

To add: I was in a near fatal car accident in June of 05 and was injured. In March of 06, someone hit/skipped my new car parked on the street outside my apartment. (No one was caught.) My fiance's car was totalled the weekend of Thanksgiving in 04. Six months later, a drunk driver hit/skipped him with the kids in the car. (They caught the guy.)

Just a few examples that you're not alone.

Everything happens for a reason. It is hard to answer a ? like that. Their is a god. Even though bad things happen. Sometimes life test you, to see how strong your beliefs are. If you just lost someone, just know that they are in a better place. And if you feel bad things keep happening to you, try to look at how your living. Do good things, good things will eventualy happen. Same with the bad.

here is one of my favorite (Surah13:22-24)
...And those who are patient in adversity out of a longing for their Sustainers countenance, and are constant in prayer, and spend on others secretly and openly, out of what We provide to them as sustenance, who repel evil with good. It is these that shall find their fulfillment in the hereafter: gardens of perpetul bliss, which they shall enter together with the righteous from among their parents, their spouses, and their offspring; and the angels will come onto them from every gate and will say;" Peace be unto you because you have persevered". please take of that what you will. goodluck.

Life is hard, and it will always include suffering. Try to keep in mind that everything happens for a reason. My dog, my fury little best friend, passed away and I thought I was going to die of a broken heart. But through his death I met my fiance, I found a new best friend. God doesn't give you anything you can't handle...if you are experiencing tough times just keep in mind that God knows you are strong enough to overcome this!!! You're not the only one who questions your faith...so don't feel alone.

Life sucks because you let it.. life is what you make of it.. God gave it to you what you do with it is up to you.. you have a choice every morning when you wake up what to do with that day, so do something positive with it..stop all the negative thinking see the glass half full not half empty.. so get up go look in the mirror and repeat this.. TODAY IS THE BEGINING OF MY NEW LIFE" now get out there and make it happen do not expect any less of yourself then you would others.. good luck ..be happy..

Religion is a touchy subject i know but everyone goes through this agnostic phase once you begin to think and rationalize for themselves. i am currently there i think but i do believe ther is someone or something out there i just have to find myself. i think you should try out diff. religion see which one fits to your personality. Bad things will always happen even if you believe in god or not. We have the free will to make our own choices and its these choices that determine our lives. No matter what if you believe in God, no God, or the devil you will have good days and bad days and life will suck sometimes

Who said life was easy and nothing bad would ever happen to good people - the battle between good & evil means -things will happen to challenge your faith in a God and to learn how to face & live with difficult situations. God gives us the freedom of choice to decide which path we want to follow.
