I have washed my skirt at 40C, and now it's 10 cms shorter than it used to be. Much too short - can't wear it like this. Any ideas?

While you will never get it back to the way it was, you may be able to rewash it and stretch it back out a bit so that the length is acceptable. I have done this before with wool socks and just the sleeves of a sweater I had once (the body was better a little shorter).

If the shrinkage is really bad and you loved the skirt sew up the top and bottom and make a pillow out of it.

If you shrink it further by putting it in a hot washer and dryer you will have what is called 'felted' wool. It does not ravel and you can cut it up for coasters or stitch them up for little handbags. You can do all kinds of little crafty things with scrap fabric like this.

Passing it along to someone smaller is always nice of you, too. If the overall structure of the skirt isn't sloppy from the shrinkage you can donate it to a community resource center that helps underpriveledged women 'dress for success' by providing clothing to wear to job interviews and such. All sizes and styles are appreciated by those just getting back on their feet.

It is ruined. Don't wash wool even if it says it's washable. It shouldn't have shrunk at all in cold water. And never use a dryer. Put it in the bag that says "Things to be taken to donate". Sorry, we've all been through this.

Give it away to a very small waisted girl.

You are never going to get it back the way it was. Ever.

My question is why doesn't sheep wool shrink while its on the sheep?

Do they come in out of the rain ?

Discard it, although I see women wearing short skirts all the time. Maybe it will fit someone else, like you little sister.

Sorry it's ruined. Don't even donate. It's trash. I wouldn't donate anything that I wouldn't wear myself.

Give it to a child who can wear it.

Common sense would tell you to pass it on to a relative or friend. It's not going to return to it's original shape. Duh!
