i have a brick looking ceramic tile floor. i tried wax remover, but am left with a yellow like finish on the tile, that only comes off with a razor blade. i suspect it may be a sealer. how can i get that off? thankx

With all due respect and no offense to you, I'd hit the previous owner on the head with a mallet. Why would anyone assume that fired, glazed clay needed to be sealed??? IT'S GLASS.

The muriatic acid, which I have used, is dangerous and as an interior solution should be dismissed as a possibilty. It's an ETCH solution basically, among other things, but also produces noxious gases. Dilluting it would also lessen any effect you obviously need.

One thing you probably should explore is the "Substance" of the "sealer" FIRST...Then at a decent paint store, BIG box store, find those other substances that are specifically designed for the purpose.

This example may seem abstract, but consider. If one is trying to dissolve a finish that is resistant to certain substances, such as a laquer or poly finish when attempting to use mineral spirits to remove those, you'd be wasting time, energy, etc.

Certainly there are DO IT ALL strippers, but similar to disclaimers with MEDS, they can have side effects, often serious, not only to us physically, but other surfaces, textures, etc.

It may be no more than a eurethane? In which case there are appropriate strippers specific to the properties of the "sealer"

It may sound harsh, Muratic acid. First try a 60-40 blend with water, allowing to to set for a short period. If this doesn't do it, use full strength. Not allowing it to set as long. You will see it bubbling on the wax and grime. Rinse with clean water, and repeat as necessary for the entire floor. It's easier to do the floor in smaller sections. Be sure to have the windows open for ventilation and wear rubber gloves to protect you skin. This will for sure take care of your problem.

Home Depot, anyone who sells them knows what to do to clean them...a wax remover would not have discolored the floor, it sounds like you have more wax. Good Luck!

Check with your local tile store, they should have a sealer remover.
