Hello I am Riyasa from Sri Lanka. I have two children 6 yearrs old daughter and one year old son. I wish to let you know of an incident which broke my son's arm bone. I was about to get ready to go to my daughter's school to collect her when I gave my son to the babysitter, after a minute he started crying so without getting ready to go I came and carried him and soothed him thinking that he was crying because I gave him to her, but he cried for one hour and he slept afterwards, then after he woke he started crying and several minutes later I noticed a swelling on his left arm and also he did not move it like he used to, so I suspected something and asked the babysitter but she said he just started crying then I took him to the doctor , they took Xray of his arm, showing that his bone was broken , then he was given anaesthesia several hours later and they put this heavy plaster. I have to keep him with the plaster till march 21st. Till his bone grows back to it's normal self.

DOES ANYONE HAS BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION AS ABOVE. I AM WORRIED BECAUSE HE IS SO SMALL, WELL HE IS SMALLER THAN THE OTHER BABY'S OF HIS AGE BECAUSE HE DOES NOT DRINK ANY OTHER MILK EXCEPT FOR MY BREAS MILK BUT I TRY MY BEST TO GIVE HIM ALL THE OTHER FOOD. ALSO I AM WORRIED ABOUT HIS HAND MOVEMENTS, BONE STREANGTH, IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD BE GRATEFUL THANKS. DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THE AFTER CARE I MEAN AFTER THEY REMOVE THE PLASTER? PLEASE HELP ME.

Your baby will be just fine. As long as he is growing and gaining the proper amount of weight, his bones will continue to mend and grow. With the cast, just be aware of any swelling of his fingers or hand. This could mean that the cast is too tight or he has swelling on the broken arm. After the cast is removed (usually 6-8 weeks), his arm will look small and it will be weak. However, you can encourage him to play and pretty soon he'll be back to normal.

Also, this might be a good time to start introducing him to new foods. Ask your pediatrician.

I would be very concerned about how the arm was broken, though. You might want to look into that.

Godloveya.

Children heal very well. If it wasn't in the 'growth plate' and it doesn't sound like it was, it should heal well. It is curious how it was broken however. You don't specifically say how it could have been broken. If there wasn't a specific cause, I'd be looking into that. There are different diseases that cause bones to break easily. Did he fall before all this, and it wasn't witnessed? Does he have a pediatrician who you can ask if he needs supplements? Good luck, most kids do just fine, regardless of us parents worrying so much!!!!!

See if you can give him more protein and soy tofu or other sources of protein. Paneer or panir is very good for him. He needs calcium too if you can feed him more from your breast that is good. If you can get some cheese that would be very good too. He can have fruits, vegetables, fish let him eat as much as you can get him to eat. When the cast is off he will need to exercise his arm. How did he break his arm? You do not say. Do you think the babysitter is abusing your son?
God's blessings on you an your family.

Have you considered the babysitter dropped him or something, but was afriad to speak up ?

I have had a cast on my arm twice, make sure he doesnt get anything trapped inside of it.
The after care? Just be extremely carefull, put lotion on his skin as it will be dry..

If your worried about his bone structure i sugest you see a specialist, I have EDS, which isn't too bad but there could be a varitey of things.

He might just be " small " was he a premie ?
