Why do so many people assume that a romantic relationship is a guaranteed friendship breaker?
Consider, a strong friendship is an excellent basis for a strong and healthy romantic relationship. You know him, and like him. That's better reason to be with someone than the usual reasons, which have nothing to do with the person.
Also consider, pretending these feelings don't exist puts a strain on the friendship.
Although a lot of people go psycho over romantic relationships, not all do.
If the romantic relationship doesn't work out, or the feelings fade, if one or both of you don't act like complete idiots, there's no reason you can't go back to being friends-without-the-romance.
It might be rocky at first, but that doesn't mean the friendship is permanently broken.
Having been strong friends to begin with is a good foundation for being friends after.
That's assuming it DOESN'T work. What if it does? You're missing the chance to have your best friend also be your lover -- nothing beats that.
I say, go for it. Just remember why you're such good friends -- however it works out.

You don't want to date him, but does he want to date you? Has he ever asked? Why not give it a try, even if you go on with this friendship there might be a day that he wants you to make a choice? Exactly this kind a friendship is usually the base for a longlife relationship.

If you two are strong enough friends then make a move. Nothing will hurt your friendship then. Good luck and hope

Maybe you should go for it, take the risk...later on, you will end up wondering "what if", if you skipped out on it. who knows, maybe it will work out....but if you have a strong enough friendship, you could probably work through it!
