Well, this isn't a "technical" answer, but grass isn't as...weak as plants. It's stronger and it keeps growing throughout the whole year...you can mow it, too and it grows back, but if you mowed (most) plants, they would probably die. It's the same way with weeds...I guess they are just "tougher" than a pretty flower.

Frost can harm your lawn if you dont treat it properly!
Your lawn must be cut back b4 winter sets in and the frost starts or the frost will get into the grass and ruin it!
But as most of us do this for vanity reasons anyway then we dont have a problem and quite apart from that grass is tougher than plants anyway!

Grass and trees go dormant during the winter. Actually ours is all white today. Earlier in the week I was running the air conditioner and then we had a snow over night. That is the way St. Patrick's Days are in the Mid-west. Some plants like asparagus comes back every year. I checked mine the other day and nothing was coming up yet. Last year I had onions showing all winter long. They didn't turn out good though. A potatoe left in the ground through the winter will also come back to life.

The grass in your lawn is much tougher and can stand frost but not the case for plants.

plants are very tender, they require much care, and some grass is harmed by the frost, but the most part grass is very tough and it takes a lot to kill it sometimes..
now what i would like to know is why my grass is dead every where my dog goes pee.
