Does your graphics card use system ram instead of onboard ram?

The amount of ram "missing" is 128megs, which is a tyicial amount of ram for a low-end graphics card to use.

You can probably change it in your graphics card properties. However, reducing the graphics memory may impair the performance of your graphics card.

One 1GB stick is more beneficial useful. the computer will be able to get correct of entry to each of the memory speedier because all of it is living on one RAM module. If 2 x 512 MB is more cost-efficient inspite of the actuality that, i'd bypass with that because the aforementioned % heavily isn't adequate to justify spending more beneficial money.

This calculator might help:

please also note that if you have onboard graphics that the amount set in BIOS will be subtracted from your total as memory is shared between the video and the system.

128mb of your ram is likely portioned off for onboard video.

you can get some ram back for system use by turning down your onboard video card to 64mb or 32mb or even 16mb.

unless you install a video card you will never show 1gb of ram in your system

The missing memory is probably being used for graphics. Do you have a graphics card, and if so, what type?

Apparently that's all your Mobo can use of the one GB Memory stick you installed! Look at the specs of your mobo and see just how much memory it can use...just and educated guess.

Sometimes they just round up to make it look good? I doubt anyone here could help, find a store that does maintenance if it really bothers you that much.
