What do you really gain? After all, you can't take it with you!

Personally I think that you make a bigger impact on society by raising your children to be productive citizens.

"Well, since you have all the answers for everyone, why don't you tell us?"

Never once did Alexandra reply (or imply) that she had all the answers, or that hers were completely right.

That said, sure, to each his (or her) own, and do what you wish with your life as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. Different people measure success differently.

In any event, it is a legitimate question; I would like to see some responses from women who are climbing this corporate ladder.

My assumption is that they want status and "power," although you have those few who really just want to be better than/be men. Maybe it's a byproduct of wanting to produce something; the true answer eludes me.

You are relying on your own personal standpoint, which involves being a stay at home mother while your husband works in a factory. If this works for you great. I think raising children is a very important job in today's world and nobody is bashing you for making this choice. However you should also respect other's choices and understand that not everybody holds the same world view as you. They have different backgrounds and experiences and this is what makes these individuals have different goals and choices.
No you cannot take it with you but for some women and men it is the challenge of the climb that they enjoy and the feelings of success when they reach their ultimate goal.
Just to say that women and men who do work also contribute quite postively to the upbringing of their children. I would rather spend three or four productive hours with my child when I get home from work, then have them sitting in a house all day with a woman or a man that is home but chooses the television of the phone over interacting with their children.

I personally don't care about succeeding in the corporate world, but I can perfectly understand that some women want to! Why not? They have a choice.

We gain a sense of personal importance and the ability to put our minds to use. I would much rather climb the corporate ladder than show someone else how to climb a jungle gym.

Well, since you have all the answers for everyone, why don't you tell us?

You kind of said it all yourself with "Personally I think". You choose to do what is best for you and your family, and stop judging other people for choosing to do what is best for them and their families. The fact that it's your opinion does not make it right or wrong. It makes it a single point of view.

And shouldn't you be off raising those productive little citizens instead of on Yahoo?
