I heard that pear trees have been successfully rooted to a hearty enough rooting system to survive the cold Canadian winters. To date i have not heard of any successfull pear tree owners.Does anyoneone have a success story to share, and possibly a source to purchase one for myself? I live in southern Manitoba ,Canada.

YOU DO NOT MENTION HOW MANY SEASONS
THIS PART OF CANADA HAS...NOR DO YOU MENTION
THE AMOUNT OF AREA YOU PLAN TO PLANT THIS TREE IF ITS JUST ON YOUR PROPERTY
AND THE SOIL ALREADY TREATED TO START YOUR
OWN PLANNED LANDSCAPE IF I WERE YOU I WOULD
NOT ONLY PLANT ONE FRUIT TREE I PLANTED
AN APPLE TREE PEAR AND PLUM AND A FEW DWARF CHERRY TREE IN THE BACK OF MY YARD,,,
IN THE BACK THERES A RAILROAD STATION,,,
FENCED IN AND ONE SIDE IS TALL BUSHES THE OTHERSIDE MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS HOME...
WITH PLENTY OF SOIL TO PLANT WHAT EVER I CHOOSE AS SPICES OR FLOWERS OR JUST A SHRUB,,,,AND THEY MANAGED TO FLORISH UNDER
5 BELOW O AND IOO PLUS I FIND THAT IN THE FALL INSTEAD OF CLEANING UP I USE ALL THE DRY FOILAGE OF VEGATABLE PLANTS AND LEAVES
ON THE VERY GROUND IT SERVES AS A BLANKET..
TO PROTECT THE GROUND THESE TREES I SPRAY
TWICE A YEAR TO TREAT THE BARK FROM INFECTIONS BEING THE FIRST 4 YEARS THEY DID NOT BARE FRUIT IN THE MEAN TIME BEING THEY SURVIVED I PLANTED A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT FRUIT TREES APRICT PEACHES FIG AND AGAIN.PLUMS AND CHERRY WITH GRAPE VINES UP
AGAINST MY FENCE,,,ONCE A YEAR EARLY IN APRIL
I CALL THE LANDSCAPER TO CLEAN OUT THE GROUNDS OF THE OLD SALVAGE BY TURNING INTOO THE GROUND WERE I PLANT MY VEGATABLES
AND PRUNE MY TREES,,,,,AND GRAPE VINES,,BUSHES
AND ROSE BUSHES AND I AM READY FOR
THE MIDDLE OF SPRING TO PLANT FOR THE SEASON
AND ENJOY THE FRUIT OF MY TREES FROM LATE SPRING INTOO ALMOST THE VERY END OF FALL.
I AM ONE BLOCK FROM THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND
ONE BLOCK FROM A BAY,,,,SALT AIR AND SAND
GO PLANT YOUR TREE....RESERCH WHICH PEAR TREE YOU WISH TOO PLANT SEVERAL FAMILIES
FIND THE ONE THAT SUITS YOU....AND GOOD LUCK

I don't know what zone you live in but pears grow from zones 2 to 9, and are commonly grown in England. Try some english sites such as BBC Gardening to see what they are growing in zones similar to your own. Botanical name from the common eating pear is Pyrus communis.

Also check with your local nursery they may be able to order you the most successful variety for you area, or tell you it is impossible. If you find a suitable variety you should be able to get it by mail order if not available locally. Good hunting.
