I am a Freemason it is against the rule for a mason to ask you to join. Inviting or recruiting in any way is against the rules here is a link to my grand lodge with official rules

Don't listen to these other people--they don't know what they are talking about. Just find the local Masonic Lodge, knock on the door, and ask to join the lodge. Part of the initiation ritual is not taking no for an answer, so be persistant. At one point they will try to slam the door on you--this is the crucial moment. Do not, under any circumstances, allow that door to close, or you will be blacklisted forever. I look forward to having you as a brother mason soon.

One has to be asked by another. Often have to be - rich or proffesional or contributed to local community.
My grand-father was a FreeMason; he had been invited because as principal of the local school he did a lot for the community.
One also has to be prepared to keep silence about their activities. One has to promise to do good deeds with no expectation of reward. This includes helping widows and orphans.

the knights templar don't exist. They were disbanded at the start of the 14th century by the pope, and put on trial for heresy by king phillip the fair of france. As for the freemasons, it's by invitaion only.
