and I was told at the pet store that it would go up to eat the flakes, but this morning it did not.

They don't have a sucker mouth like a pleco, but they can and will "hold on" to something like driftwood with their fins and spines, even upside down.

They will come to the surface to feed but only when very hungry. The much prefer to eat sinking foods from the bottom of the tank.

isn't a raphael catfish a type of pleco? It looks like it from when I googled it . I think your fish is fine.

they have spines that are not sharp.Those things are cool they can fit inside of very tight logs or ornaments and when you try to get them out it is almost impossible, but when you put the food in the tank they come out and feed like crazy! only to go back in the hole that they came from.

hteyhave horns that could stick and they also are nocturnal and like to hide drift wood is a natural hiding spot for them
