I am mostly asking to find out if a electric Sitar and Banjo could use effect pedals

Sure. I use a bass modeling pedal with my guitar all the time. You can't use a tuner, but otherwise go for it. Be orginal.

I don't see why not. I also don't see why one can only use the pedals with a guitar. Afterall, the effect pedals electrically change the sound and do not depend on the instrument. Some of the effect pedals could even be used with one's voice (such as the harmonizer for instance). If you are interested, give it a try. Maybe you can find someone who will loan you a couple so you can experiment before shelling out the money.
