We have been asked at Uni to do a sort of mini literature review. I have my question and my articles which I found in Journals. I now have no idea what to do. I have read and re-read the articles and am now going mad cos I can't seem to pick out the right information. All the articles are now blending into one big mess of crappy information. Anyone know how to write a good review? Oh and what is meant by a Prospective, controlled clinical study?

ok, start by taking a deep breath and spread out in front of you all the articles. grab a paper and pen and write down all the main points from each article. just read it and when its saying something factual on what you are writing about, write it down,. (remember to put where it was from and what page etc etc next to it) and when you've done that, highlight it all in different colours. when you've done that you can start compiling your review. use all the factual quotes you have written down to help you, pick them randomly, re-word them into your own wording or if you want to use the quote remember to show that it is a quote otherwise you'll get done for plagiarism. i finished uni last summer, i had to do lots of them and by working like that i got good marks but its different for everyone so adjust it to what suits you and your working style.

lastly a prospective, controlled clinical study is a study that is going to be carried out which is controlled by many factors, ie has guidelines and limits which will be on people in a controlled setting, maybe a hospital or something like that (clinical).

It seems to me that there is a definite format to review writing.
I know that the frustration is intense when you understand the piece under consideration, but cant make a start. I hope that this tip is not going to be too late, but a good way out of this impasse is a little bit of research. Choose a couple of broadsheet papers that are including book reviews, and read them. There is a style, and a method of selecting a theme of criticism or acclaim that becomes more apparent the more that you read. If you can choose reviews of books that interest you then this is not such an onerous task!

The literature overview of a dissertation is the area the place you checklist particularly some works that have stated comparable matters, and you summarize their strategies-set and findings.
