Common enough name in Scotland. Quite a good choice.

I am not a Scot, but my husband is. Alistair is indeed a Scottish name, though I can't say I personally love it. Have you ever considered a geographical type name that relates to Scotland? For instance, my husband loves the name Arran (spelled that way)... as in the isle off the coast of Scotland. There are plenty of cities, hills, lakes, etc that offer really cool names. Break out a map and have a peek!
the isle of Skye
electric Brae
Of course those are both girl names, but just a couple examples. So many possibilities.

Hi I'm Scottish...
Alastair is not my fave of name but it's ok! I think that's because I've known 2 and both have been fools (Sorry that has tainted my view of the name!)
Saying that i'm in my 30's and only ever know 2!

Sorry, I am American.
BUT...
I watch a lot of British television and movies, and Alastair is a very common first name with Scottish actors. Supposing this is roughly representative of the general population, it is a perfectly normal name. I also think it is a really nice name!

I'm Scottish, i think Alastair is definitely traditional rather than modern. You can also spell it Alasdair.
There are plenty Gaelic and other traditional names to choose from - but Alastair is just fine if that's the perfect one for you!
