I received a new sewing machine for Christmas and had this SAME problem. I was so disgusted and thought it was the machine. However, it turned out that the bobbin was not wound properly and would "jam". Try winding a new bobbin and see if you continue to have the problem.

Good luck!

There is a small screw on the bobbin case. You can play with it and try to adjust it through many hours of trial and error or go to the store and buy a new one. (I assuredly would do the latter). Tension is the most difficult thing to regulate on a sewing machine, good luck if you try it on your own. (Really, bobbin cases are not expensive to replace and they are universal size) :~)

You may have to readjust the bobbin tension, also if you have a dull needle the thread will break. and so will the needle!

It sounds like the lock on the shuttle is bad. Needle breaking has to do with the alignment to the hole, If the tension is too tight it can pull it out of alignment too. I think you need to take it to the shop.
