I've been hit by BP during my 29 weeks of pregnancy, affecting my right face. It's been 6 weeks now and recovery is minimal. My Neurologist said that it could be due to my current pregnancy and that recovery may speed up after delivery. I am currently experiencing pain/discomfort in my left ear. Anyone knows if BP will affect both part of the face? Anyone who got BP before, can you share with me the signs to look out for, for recovery.

I've had BP three times. It's a slllooooowwww recovery and even slower when pg. It normally take me three months to be all normal again, for you, maybe more. Don't worry, it's inconvenient for sure, but it'll get better.

Hi I have been there. I was 13 years old when I got my first Bells Palsy Attack. I have recurring Bells Palsy. It has only ever affected the left side of my face. It took me about 8 weeks before I ever felt any better. And around 12 weeks before my smile went back to normal. I guess you are wearing patches on your eye and having to put the YUCK ointment in your eyes 3 times a day . Well this is all you really can do. My Dr. had never heard of recurring Bells Palsy and has done test after test to try to determine why it is happening to me. But I guess I have gotten used to it now. When It happens I just call him to get my ointment filled. Normally I have an episode twice a year. I can tell when I am getting better when the Numbness in my ear subsides. After that I know it will only take a few weeks to be back to normal. I am sorry that you are having to deal with BP during your pregnancy and I hope that I helped you a little. You can e-mail me if you have further questions. kimberlygh03@earthlink.net

My husband had Bell's Palsy and we found that going to an acupuncturist helped immensely. The treatment from the doctor did nothing. Contact a local acupuncturist and see if they've ever did acupuncture on someone who was pregnant , and if they've ever had success with treating someone who has Bell's Palsy. It only affected one side of his face, so I'm not sure about the ear pain. BP typically comes on pretty suddenly and goes away slowly, but with acupuncture, his went away in about a month.
