I'm 13, and have been playing the guitar since I was 10. I have one guitar, a orange-wood J. Reynolds electric guitar. That one is really messed up, and it's time I got a new one. I love playing the electric guitar, but can't resist the sound of an acoustic. The music I mostly compose is meant for the electric guitar. But, if I decide to write a slower song, I'll need an acoustic guitar.
Now, I know you're going to tell me to get an acoustic-electric, but what if i'm playing a fast electric guitar song?
Won't that look weird playing a fast song with an acoustic looking, acoustic-electric guitar?
So, which should I get?

Well, for the beginner I always suggest electric guitar over acoustic. There are so many techniques you can do with an electric you can't do with an acoustic. However, you have been playing for a while, so the question is, what kind of music do you play, or want to play? Some styles just sound better on one over the other.

Get an acoustic/electric. It seems you are looking for an acoustic and you already play electric. You are going to love playing acoustic and will play it an awful lot. Then you know your going to want to hook it to your amp, then use effects with it. Acoustic/electric just gives you the option to play the acoustic through an amp if you want, it is still just an acoustic.
If you don't get an acoustic/electric guitar you will soon wish you did!

Do what i did, and get a cool, sleek looking acoustic/electric guitar. It seems normal when playing fast songs on it because of the design and color, and the sound actually comes out as more unique in a sense.

Lindsay Buckingham plays an acoustic pretty fast. Most write and compose on acoustic, because it's easier, and because you get a clearer note without feedback or reverb. After the composition, you play with electricity, to add/change effects.

In my opinion, you should get an electric one. The electric one looks much better and less clumsy. Its also lighter. Besides, since you're used to playing a electric one you should stick to it. And who said you can't play slow songs using a electric guitar!?
But then, if you're rich enough get both =)

if you are as serious as you seem with your guitar-playing, i'd say that you'd never really find one guitar to fit all the music that you want to play. so it's either you choose one over the other, or be ready to invest in at least a couple guitars -- starting with an acoustic and an electric. good luck!

i think you should get an electric gutar if you are one of the people who likes more rock music than soul/country music. if you like country or more "laid back" music then an acustic gutar is right for you!
