No longer member of an assocation required for a job but will be writing the exam soon.?

Question

Let my membership lapse as I thought I would be retiring from present job now in a downsize position. Will not have written the exam for membership before job is up. How can I word it on the job cover letter so I can get an interview. I don't want to lie and say I am a current member when I will not be officially.
