I think that some of has to do with a larger job market and the fact that you can buy a house for a fraction of the price compared to the markets in NYC/Jersey, Boston, Chicago, and California. Houses in my neighborhood would go for $350,000 to over $650,000 in those markets.

You got that right. It seems like everybody is moving to my area, near Pearland. New construction for housing is going up fast everywhere all around Houston. Chain stores are opening up all over the place too. Cost of living is very reasonable here, but the traffic can be overwhelming.

I moved to Houston from Florida last July. The reason I moved is because the cost of living in Texas is a lot cheaper than in Florida. Ive met a lot of people in my neighborhood that are from different parts of the US. I asked them why they moved here and many have said that it was due to the cost of living.

Houston is the only world class city where you can buy a great home in the suburb for 250k-300k. For this price you can only get a 1bedroom condo in most other cities (NY,LA,Chicago). The climate is also nice except for 3-4 months during summer.

People dont come for the scenic landscape and heat, thats for sure. people come to Houston to work. A very large chunk of America's "one percenters" live here, and they create a lot of jobs. Housing is the 2nd cheapest in the country, and its a very large beautiful city.

Me and my husband moved here a year ago from Oregon and we came down here because the job market is better here then Portland and the price of living is cheap compared to the west and east coast.
