Could I get sick or can something bad happen?

As long as the medicine was still sterile (wrapped in a package) you'll be fine... even if it wasn't, it's doubtful that any bacteria would have grown on it.

All the expiration date on medicine is, is how long the manufacturer guarantees the medicine to be effective. It doesn't mean the medicine "goes bad" after that date like milk. The worst thing that happens is that it's not effective anymore. Usually the medicine is still good for years after the expiration date, however the manufacturer is not liable and won't replace it if it doesn't work. There are several programs across the country that recycle expired medication, usually given to the extremely poor/homeless at free clinics.

Don't let everyone scare you on here about this. Most chocolate laxatives contain sennosides. After expiration, this active ingredient simply becomes less "active", not harmful. At worst, in 24 hours, you will have a good bowel movement.

I think the rule of thumb with meds is, if they've expired, they're less effective. However, you could call Poison Control and they'd have a more specific answer.

I doubt it will make you sick but they might not be as
effective being 2 years over the expiration date. You
could probably call the company and ask or call your
local pharmacist and ask them.

They expired about a year and a half ago, of course you'll get sick. Go to a doctor immediately.
