i own a repair shop, and either the rear end went out on it or it lost s u-joint and when you put it in 4 wheel drive that made the front differential work on it that's why it pulled, basically it may have lost a gear in the rear end or a gear in the transfer case, either one of these will make it stop pulling, like that, its going to have to checked though to know for sure what happened to it,i have seen a few of them do that before and it could be either of the problems i mentioned, good luck i hope this helps.,,PS if there's not any noise coming from rear end at all it may have broken a shaft for a gear or anything, tear it down and see on this one, good luck.

A couple of scenarios:

The rear axle or the shifter is not engaging the syncro collar in the transfer case. In 2 WD, the collar is slide forward linking the input shaft to the output shaft, in effect mating one complete shaft.

1. Check fluid level

2. Check the linkage at the transfer case.

3. If linkage seems OK, then jack up the rear of the vehicle & place on jack stands.

4. Spin one tire the opposite tire in the opposite direction. If not, remove the inspection cover & check the spider gears.

5. Posi rear end - perform the same test only this time both wheel should turn in the same direction. If not possible clutch pack problems.

Good Luck

You have a problem of some kind in the rear drive unit, either the rear end, the drive shaft, or more likely an axle. Of course when you switch to 4WD the front tires will pull it. So, using 4WD, take it to your mechanic to find out what failed.

Do you still have your rear drive shaft? Look under and see. If you do and it turns then you either got a broke pinion or axle shaft. An axle shaft is an easy fix. If it were in the t-case then you should've lost the front axle also.

well if it moves in 4wd look after the transfer case...chain drive the frt prop shaft...If your rear end went..You would have no 2wd (alot of noise would be heard i think)
