This appears to be a problem loading images. I used my computer one day w/everything fine, about 4 days later I got on and it's a total nightmare trying to load ANY web page. I have 2 antivirus programs running--I've checked and it's not a virus. I was using Firefox in addition to IE6; I uninstalled Firefox, no change. I did disk cleanup, no change. I am SO frustrated but I don't want to unhook my computer & take it to be looked at if I can avoid that. Is there anything else I can try?

Click start >click run >type in msconfig click on the startup tab then uncheck everything there except your anti virus and internet connection . Click ok and your computer will restart . Then see if your computer is still slow.

if it is still slow

If you have two antivirus programs running at the same time they could be clashing -- try disabling one of them. You can run scans with it as a secondary, but you don't want two active at the same time.

Do you have antispyware programs as well? Antivirus programs don't detect all malware. You should have several antispyware programs, as they look for different things. I recommend Hitman Pro from which will install and run multiple free antispyware programs. Choose the Safe Mode option, and run your antivirus scan in Safe Mode also.

It sounds like you are timing out on nameservers.

That is, part of the "surfing" process is turning
hostnames (such as www.yahoo.com) into IP
addresses. To do so, your computer will
ask another computer if knows what IP address
is associated with a particular hostname and
hopefully that computer will know and respond
immediately.

But sometimes it doesn't.

Who are you using as an Internet Service Provider?
How did you configure your computer to get its
IP address and name service?
