About 10 years ago, we had a slab of concrete put down in the ramp before our driveway, so it wouldn't damage our cars with all the bumping. A lot of our neighbors have this. About a month ago a construction company (hired by the city) came in and repaved our neighborhood. In the process, with all there huge machines, they cracked our concrete ramp.

To my understanding, the city owns a certain part of one's yard (from the street into the yard a little bit). If I wish for this to be fixed, since the city broke an area that was (I think) owned by them, are they not entitled to fix this? I'm just wondering if I should pay for this, or if the city or the construction company is to pay for this.

Thanks for your time!

If I were you I would try to call and see if they would fix it, but if they do not want to, I am afraid you will have to. Your ramp was an unauthorized addition to the city property/road that they are not responsible for. If I built a shed on your property without your permission and you crashed your car into it, you would certainly not be required to fix my unauthorized shed. That is what they can claim in court if it came down to that. However fixing a crack in concrete is cheap. So call them up and see if they will do it, and if not, unfortunately you will have to. Not worth fighting for.

since you are well aware that the city owned the area in which the ramp was located-you answered your own question. the area where the ramp was located was probably not owned by you. IF it is not your property-you are not in titled to restitution.

Contact a lawyer about this-don't even go to the city first.
