Any ideas

They have to give you the mac code withing 5 days of them being asked for it. If they don't tel them you will report them to Ofcom. They can be fined heavily for not giving the code.

The fact that money is owned is not relevant as thei issue lies with the previous owner/tenant and not your parents.

Did you not see that bbc watchdog programme a few weeks ago. Will put the link down below but tell your parents to tell aol that they will get reported. They won't like that. Quote from the watchdog site as follows:

So what happens when you've had enough and want out? Your internet company is supposed to give you what's known as a MAC code. It's supposed to help you to switch seamlessly to a new supplier. But a number of providers seem unwilling to give them out and let you leave. The industry regulator Ofcom has received so many complaints about this it's now made it compulsory for broadband companies to hand over your MAC code within five days of you asking for it, regardless of any ongoing payment disputes. Companies found in breach of new MAC rules can now be fined up to ten per cent of their turnover.

HIT THE BA**ARDS with that. God, I hate big companies and their red tape. Good luck
