She always gives credit to the opponent and never makes any excuses unlike Serena Williams.

She never has anything bad to say about any player even if other players might have something bad to say about her.

Sure she is an intense competitor and rubs some people the wrong way with her oncourt attitude, but off-court she is humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

I absolutely hate it when a player blames their loss on an injury, or like when they say they really had a bad day, or whatever. You lost, get over it, your opponent was better on the day! So all credit to Sharapova for always making the person that beat her feel like a champ. (Also Henin, Clijsters, Davenport and in her new career, Hingis are quite gracious when winning and also losing)

And thumbs down to the Williams sisters, who whenever they lose, have some kind of injury.

- WOW, it's incredibly insane that you people are even bringing up Serena single-handedly like she's some kind of spokesperson for bad sportsmanship or something.
- She does what every other tennis player does. If she played awful, then she says it. She doesn't single out the other player or make excuses. You're telling me that if you absolutely played a horrible match and couldn't get a ball in, that you would ONLY say that ur competitor played an awesome match and there was nothing you could do?
- Serena COUNTLESS times says how whoever she was playing just played better than her that day when she loses. And if she was doing horrible, she'll say that too. You people obviously don't watch tennis, or are just ignorant because Sharapova (and every other tennis player like i said) does exactly what Serena does. And there's nothing wrong with it, so i dont even get how this is a question. Sorry, but you all are incredibly rude for those Serena comments.
- You give credit where credit is due, and you make it a point to say if you were on your game or not. And, everyone does that.

Even though I was never a fan of Sharapova, I would have to agree with that. Sharapova, suprisingly, is gracious in defeat. I noticed this in the Aussie Open final where she got thrashed by Serena. During the presentation ceremony she behaved very well and gave full credit to Serena. It's good behaviour. I appreciate that, so should everyone.

I've noticed the same about her many times before. She always hands it to her opponent and this isn't mentioned too often. It could be because players who make excuses (i.e. Serena) are the exception in tennis and most of them exhibit great sportsmanship.

Sorry, i think u got them mixed up. Serena & her sister are usually the gracious ones, whether lose or win. The same goes with so many other female players, but not Sharapova.
When she wins, she greets the press with a smile & brags about how powerfull she was, had a game plan, she is tall & strong, etc.. When she loses, she comes with silly excuzes, that she was rusty, she came off injury,..etc.

Not true; she's typical and I've heard her say bad things about Serena. Stop the Serena bashing;you simply don't like her and looking for any reason to belittle her while you heap praise on Sharapova. Serena is the better player - get over it.

In this world, there are winners and losers.

Losers sniver about "doing their best."

Winners go home and f%3@* the prom queen/king.
